This morning I didn’t have breakfast, was famished and had a hankering for pasta at Ecco Italian Food Cafe on Chulia Street. I called the cafe before going to check if it was open, the person who answered the phone said yes. However, when we got there, the door was closed. I was banging on the door and someone came out. He told me that owner decided not to open for business because the oven was busted! What a disappointment!

I pushed my luck and told the guy that we wouldn’t be having pizza so even the over was spoilt, it didn’t matter. The owner was insistent that even for pasta, they still needed the oven so we had to leave. I was starved! It was a bad custoner experience I must say.

So, we just went across the street to have chicken rice, the nearest place I could find to satiate my hunger. Saw an Indian man next to us ordering gizzards with rice. He speaks in Hokkien and when his roast chicken was served, he told the seller in Hokkien, “Wa ai pek kei, um si or kei” (I want white chicken, not black chicken). It was hilarious to me, the Indian wanted to eat white chicken and returned the black chicken since it was a wrong order! LOL.

After lunch, we decided to take a leisurely walk around Georgetown starting from Cintra street to Komtar and made some new discoveries. Saw some shops that I’ve never been to selling ready-sauce for Laksa, Hokkien mee and the like opposite to Woo Hin Rolex Watch shop on Campbell Street, some silver jewelries shop with OPI nail products, clothes shops and also a very modern looking air-conditioned coffin shop on Cintra street.

There was a new “Old House Cafe Chinese Cuisine” on Kimberly street corner Jalan Sungai Ujong. You won’t miss it, it’s a row of 5 quiant, cozy, newly painted green old houses turned into a cafe. I believe it is opening soon, we’ll see if the food is good.

We just crossed the street and walked around Komtar and Prangin mall and did some shopping. After that, took a walk to Carnavon street and back to Chulia street to take the car.

Overall, I felt great as it was a very nice leisurely walk day in Penang, made some new discoveries and enjoyed every minute of it.
