Best Value Italian Restaurant in Penang
There is only a handful of Italian restaurants in Penang like Bella Italia on Pulau Tikus, Mario’s on Batu Ferringhi, Bravo Italiano at i-Avenue and the like. I must say that I love the food at the first two, I find the food at Bravo below my expectations but most of these restaurants offer fine dining experience and fetch a high price for its ambiance.
If you love Italian food, for a change, I’d recommend Ecco Cafe on Chulia Street with great quality Italian food. Tucked in a row of pre-war shop-houses along Chulia Street is a cosy little cafe serving mainly Italian delicacies with a variety of pizzas and pastas. You will find this cafe is quite popular among locals and back packers who love casual dining with a little classic touch and without burning a hole in your pocket. The cafe is tastefully decorated with antiques. Don’t be surprised to see the cashier pull down a basket full of money from the ceiling for your change. That is the old day cash register machine.
I’d say you’d save a lot for great food in a pretty decent cozy ambiance compared to other Italian restaurants. I’ve always loved the food there and decided to finally write a post to share about this cool place. Here are some of the heartiest meals we ordered and only spent RM71 with drinks.
We ordered Garden Salad (RM5),
Freshly chopped mushroom soup (RM7),
Confetti Corleone (RM17), i.e. Fettucine with beef pepperoni, capsicum, peas, onion, olives in a roasted garlic cream sauce, tastes lovely!
Hawaiian Pizza (RM17) with generous spread of cheese, turkey ham, olives, capsicum, onion and pineapple, yummy!
I love their creme brulee as my grande finale but they didn’t have it when we went there the last time so the waiter recommended another one. We love this special dessert, i.e. Balsamic Strawberries Gingersnaps with Brandy Cream (RM15). It’s a bit sourish with the Balsamic Vinegar and strawberries and sweet at the same time. I must say that the combination is just very unique and heavenly. I have not tried anything like this before and must say that the taste is absolutely beautiful! I just found my new love

This is my most favourite Italian restaurant on our paradise island! I discovered it almost 2 yrs ago and organised many makan-sessions there. Even organised a teambuilding dinner there once for my global team
It’s been awhile since I went back and your sharing of their new dessert has just given me reason to go back. Tks CH!

yummm i love the food here too! (but the only downside is that it can get pretty hot and noisy inside as its near the main road)
but the pies and pizzas make it worth it!
